This course has been designed to provide employees of Aberdeenshire Council who are involved in the preparation and/or service of open food to others, with the working knowledge required to ensure the safe handling of all food.
This course is not restricted to catering staff only as it is applicable to all food handling staff including teachers, PSA’s, homecarers, domestics etc. PLEASE NOTE – if you have achieved this qualification within the last 3-5 years then you may attend the half day Food Hygiene Refresher Course
- An Introduction to food hygiene.
- Bacteria and their characteristics.
- The incidence of food poisoning and its prevention.
- Personal hygiene and working habits of the food handler.
- The working environment.
- Cleaning practices.
- Common food pest and their control.
- Food legislation.
This is achieved by:
- Written workbook.
- Group work.
The course presentation is of 6 hours duration (excluding breaks) and plus a short 30 minute multiple choice assessment at the conclusion of the session. Successful candidates (60% pass mark) will be issued with a certificate from REHIS.
The course can be delivered in one day or split into 2 sessions to suit. Training can be provided ‘on-site’ provided suitable accommodation and facilities are available
